The total annual deal value of private equity deals surged to $1.27tn from $421.7bn from 2013 to 2021, before slipping to $1.024tn in 2022. There were 279 exits in Q1 2023, with exit value totalling $55.9bn, compared with 329 exits and total exit value of $84.6bn in Q1 2022.

The report stated that U.S. private equity exit activity has been “disappointing” thus far in 2023, due to prolonged inflation and unfavorable valuation adjustments.
