In his annual letter to investors, BlackRock CEO Larry Fink addressed a range of topics, emphasising the firm’s commitment to its clients and focus on sustainability. Amid political debates over ESG investing principles, Fink stressed the importance of serving clients by seeking the best risk-adjusted returns within their investment guidelines.

Amid political debates over ESG investing principles, Fink stressed the importance of serving clients by seeking the best risk-adjusted returns within their investment guidelines. 

BlackRock attracted nearly $400 billion in long-term net new assets in 2022, with a record $192 billion coming from institutional clients outsourcing investment management to the company.  

Fink highlighted the importance of considering the energy transition and its impact on the economy, asset prices, and investment performance. He acknowledged that clients have varying preferences regarding sustainable investments but affirmed that BlackRock would continue to offer choices and manage assets according to their guidelines. Fink also voiced support for fund investors conducting their own proxy voting, while cautioning that informed and engaged decision-making is crucial for effective corporate governance.
